Lead Information
Creating lead-safe environments for residents in our area is critically important. The Housing Council at PathStone provides information and resources for landlords.
Landlords are responsible for:
Making sure that families are moving into a lead-safe home
Providing tenants with a copy of the US EPA Renovate Right pamphlet
Making sure that qualified, lead-safe professionals do renovation and repair work
Ensuring that properties are maintained according to local codes
Ensuring that paint is in good condition, inside the home and out

After April 2010, new federal laws require contractors to become EPA Lead Certified Renovators. The new Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (LRRP) rule affects anyone who is paid to perform work that disturbs paint in housing and child-occupied facilities built before 1978. This includes:
Residential rental property owners/managers
General contractors
Maintenance personnel and trade contractors, including HVAC, painters, plumbers, carpenters, and electricians

**Please note: The “Housing Stability and Tenant Protection act of 2019,” recently passed by NY State, brings about changes to rent regulation and renter protections. The bill provides new protections for renters against eviction, among many other key regulations.
