Housing Counseling Works!

For more than 50 years, The Housing Council’s HUD-approved Housing Counselors have been helping individuals and families throughout Monroe County make informed housing decisions. Wherever they are in the housing process, The Housing Council is here -- providing insights, answers and resources needed to make the choices that are right for the individual or family.

Housing counseling services offer a range of benefits, ensuring that prospective and current homeowners are equipped with the knowledge and support they need to make wise decisions throughout their homeownership journey. Both tenants and housing providers can benefit from housing counseling services as education on rights and responsibilities, and a host of resources are available through The Housing Council.

During the previous two years, The Housing Council helped more than 8,000 individuals with housing-related issues. From navigating the difficult path to homeownership in today’s competitive housing market, to helping tenants understand their rights and responsibilities, our Housing Counselors have provided the guidance needed to change lives. Perhaps one of the most significant benefits of working with a HUD-certified housing counselor is the sense of confidence and empowerment it imparts to individuals. By arming themselves with knowledge, clients feel more in control of their financial futures and housing decisions. This newfound confidence can have a ripple effect, leading to greater financial stability and overall well-being.

“I thank everyone for their help by being clear on explaining the program to me and taking the time to direct me on the steps that I needed to take to complete the application. I really was stumped on understanding. I was in the hospital and Lisa Sassone (my housing counselor) went the extra mile to stand in the gap and help me out also. I just love your crew. They also brought up other programs that may be available to me now or the possible future. I see that they care about people, in the community   and their jobs. Where else can you find that?” -Karen Marshall, client
