NeighborWorks Week highlights how bridging the gaps in neighborhoods is vital to progress

Neighborhoods and communities are where people interact most frequently. Addressing large problems like housing, that seem too large to solve on a national scale, seem more manageable when neighbors come together. That’s why NeighborWorks Week - an annual celebration where The Housing Council at PathStone and other NeighborWorks organizations across the country highlight neighborhood change and awareness of the importance of investment in people and neighborhoods - is held every June. Since its inception in 1983, Neighbor Works Week highlights the collective impact of the NeighborWorks network and how each organization takes a unique, tailored approach to serving its particular neighborhood or community. NeighborWorks Week helps to showcase leaders who care deeply about community and bring people together to tackle tough challenges, create change and build stronger communities.

The Housing Council at PathStone, and all members of the national NeighborWorks network, provide the local, on-the-ground work building and restoring communities that we all are proud to call home. A large number of Monroe County residents struggle with finding affordable, safe stable housing. That’s why the Housing Council at PathStone provides homeownership education and counseling, training and counseling for both tenants and landlords, and support for homeowners.

To solve the social inequalities and wealth gaps residents experience in our community, organizations like The Housing Council at PathStone are working daily to provide essential services that transform lives. Large, long-lasting changes begin with the local, on-the-ground work of neighborhoods and residents.

Residents in Monroe County and across the country want to create vibrant and welcoming places everyone wants to call home. But to accomplish this goal, bridging the wealth and attainment gaps that allow Monroe County residents to improve their own financial future is critical. The Housing Council at PathStone has been helping people bypass challenges and improve their lives for fifty years, so this year’s NeighborWorks Week has been especially important to them.
