About Us

The Housing Council is a not-for-profit corporation based in Rochester, NY and founded in 1971. A HUD-approved comprehensive housing counseling agency, The Housing Council provides landlord education, foreclosure prevention, pre-purchase counseling and fair housing education. The Housing Council provides property management tools and strategies to landlords in order to enhance their business skills and familiarize them with their rights and responsibilities.

The Housing Council Hotline fielded 12,000 calls in the last year, answering every sort of housing question. Hotline staffers provided problem-solving strategies and referred callers to dozens of other agencies for further help. Rochester area tenants can access over 300 area apartment listings through The Housing Council Rental Registry. The Housing Council distributes over 13,000 copies of each year.
