Women who served in the United States Armed Forces will be honored during an event designed just for them. The concept is to celebrate the service of women that choose to serve.

The Monroe County Veterans Service Agency says it’s an opportunity to thank female veterans for their service to our country.

Recognizing female vets is the idea of Laura Stradley, director of the Monroe County Veterans Service Agency. Stradley spent eight years in the United States Army reaching the rank of staff sergeant.

She says women face some of the same problems coming out of the service as men, including post traumatic stress.

“A lot of women have experienced military sexual trauma more so than their male counterparts, although men have certainly experienced that as well in the military, but the numbers are pretty high of unreported military sexual trauma incidents in the military for women,” said Stradley.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 13 at the Nixon-Peabody Law Firm at Clinton Square downtown.
